New Anti-Encryption Bill Could Represent An Attack On Bitcoin And Crypto
The crypto industry has a lot of goals, but one of the main ones is to push the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and crypto.
There have been a lot of moves made in this direction, and things continue to move on the right track towards the achievement of this goal.
But not everything and everyone helps this issue move forward in the country.
New anti-encryption bill could pose danger for Bitcoin
The online publication the Daily Hodl just noted that crypto insiders are wary that an anti-encryption bill that is flying under the radar may have a negative impact on Bitcoin and crypto.
During the course of last week, it’s been revealed that US Representatives Sylvia Garcia and Ann Wagner introduced the House version of the bipartisan Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies (EARN IT) Act whose Senate counterpart of the same name has already been passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Strengthening government authority
The online publication notes that the EARN IT Act will strengthen government authority in order to combat the sexual exploitation of children online.
“In doing so, the bill would form a commission to determine the best practices regarding online child exploitation prevention and amend the Communications Decency Act (CDA),” the Daily Hodl notes.
It’s been pointed out the fact that the proposed amendments to Section 230 of the CDA could alter liability standards for services such as content platforms – these are currently not considered responsible for the content that’s published by the users as long as providers also meet the standards that are set by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
Increasing the liability of service providers comes with some pretty important implications for massive platforms such as Google or Facebook. But, more than that, this will also bring some implications for Bitcoin and digital assets, according to the reports.
Bitcoin advocate Andreas Antonopoulos recently talked about the ways in which the legislation could affect BTC and the whole crypto space. So make sure to watch the video above.
