It has been just revealed the fact that Ethereum layer-2s see a surge in specialization. Check out the latest reports about this below.
ETH is the news
According to IntoTheBlock, a company specializing in analytics, the major layer-2 (L2) protocols of Ethereum (ETH) are evolving and finding their own roles.
The analytics firm notes that Ethereum-scaling solutions Base, Arbitrum (ARB), and Optimism (OP) are each building a strong and diverse ecosystem by following their own paths.
Starting with Base, the analytics firm suggests that Coinbase’s new layer-2 protocol is benefitting from the cryptocurrency exchange’s large user base and the increasing popularity of blockchain-based social networking platform Friend.tech.
IntoTheBlock notes that Ethereum’s L2 landscape is experiencing a significant degree of specialization among its key players. Base is currently leading the way with the highest number of unique addresses and transactions, which is driven by the expansive reach of Coinbase.
This makes it a promising platform for social applications such as FriendTech to flourish.
According to a recent report from IntoTheBlock, Friend.tech has experienced rapid success, with over 100,000 users signing up within weeks of its launch.
This growth has helped Base attract a wide range of retail users, which is advantageous for Coinbase. On September 14th, Base recorded over 1.8 million transactions, breaking its previous record of approximately 1.4 million transactions, as per blockchain data.
Furthermore, IntoTheBlock is closely monitoring the emergence of Arbitrum, which is becoming a dominant layer-2 protocol in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space.
“Arbitrum maintains unmatched transaction volumes, being home to the most liquid DEXs (decentralized exchanges) and boasting the highest TVL (total valued locked) in the DeFi space.”
An analytics firm reports that Optimism has established itself as an Ethereum-scaling solution by serving as the base protocol for other layer-2s.
The firm observes that Optimism is achieving its goal of becoming a superchain, particularly with the OP Stack being used as the foundational infrastructure for other L2 projects like Mantle and Base.
