It seems that a considerable amount of money is about to be given in the US. This is a part of a new income pilot program and you can find out more about the issue below.
New income pilot program in the US
In Virginia’s Fairfax County, a new basic income pilot is set to distribute $2 million to 180 families with no strings attached. Each family will receive $750 per month for 15 months.
The sign up period for the Fairfax County Economic Mobility Pilot (FCEMP) is from September 23 to October 3.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a child who is 16 years or younger, and have a household income between 150% and 250% of the 2023 Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
The goal of the pilot is to test whether cash handouts can improve physical and mental health, school performance, housing and food security, and help people attain full-time employment.
The FCEMP is a basic income program that empowers residents to take control of their own lives and finances, promoting dignity and self-determination.
However, before the program can be fully realized, it is important to establish a baseline understanding of the families participating in it.
To achieve this, Fairfax County will conduct research to determine how the cash assistance impacts participants’ lives and whether to continue or expand the program.
This trial is just one of many across the US that will distribute over $200 million to evaluate the effectiveness of basic income programs for those facing financial difficulties.
In other recent news, based on recent reports, it appears that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has updated its projections for the US budget deficit this year, and it is now expected to be significantly higher than previously estimated.
The agency predicts that government spending will exceed revenues by $1.7 trillion in 2023, which is based on the deficit through July and preliminary estimates of revenues and expenditures in August and September. Check out our previous article in order to learn more details about the matter.
