MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Treasury Reaches Record $63.46 Billion With 815,000 BTC Held

The scale of MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy has reached another record milestone that would have seemed implausible just two years ago. As of 26 April 2026, the business intelligence company — which has effectively transformed itself into a leveraged Bitcoin holding vehicle — holds 815,061 BTC with a combined value of $63.46 billion across 107 separate purchase events.

A Week of Record Buying

The most recent accumulation phase saw MicroStrategy add 34,164 BTC in a single week for a total outlay of $2.54 billion — a purchase that briefly allowed the firm to surpass BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust in terms of total BTC held. The capital was raised through a combination of STRF equity offerings and MSTR share sales — a financial model that has become MicroStrategy’s signature approach: continuously issuing equity and debt instruments to fund Bitcoin purchases, according to data reported by KuCoin.

The firm’s average acquisition cost across all 107 purchases stands at approximately $75,528 per BTC — a price that sits just below the current market level, meaning the company is currently sitting on a modest unrealised gain in percentage terms while holding a portfolio of extraordinary absolute value.

Saylor’s Vision: One Million BTC

MicroStrategy executive chairman Michael Saylor has publicly hinted at a target of one million BTC by late 2026 — an aspiration that would require the firm to roughly double its holdings from the current 815,000. Some analysts consider this target ambitious but not impossible, given the company’s demonstrated ability to access capital markets at scale. Others note that the pace of acquisition has been accelerating: the firm added 47,079 BTC in the first three weeks of April alone, registering a 6.2% yield on its Bitcoin position — a metric Saylor uses to track the effectiveness of his accumulation strategy, according to Yahoo Finance.

Market Implications

MicroStrategy’s relentless accumulation strategy has become a structural feature of the Bitcoin market. The firm’s large, regular purchases create consistent demand that has historically provided support during periods of selling pressure. However, critics note that the model introduces significant leverage into the firm’s balance sheet and creates reflexive risk: if Bitcoin’s price were to fall sharply, the firm’s ability to service debt or issue equity at favourable rates would be challenged. For now, with Bitcoin near $78,000 and the institutional bid strong, the strategy appears to be working as designed.
