The latest version of the Opera browser for Android is currently available in private beta.
It implemented a straightforward built-in crypto wallet feature, and this means that a big part of the Opera’s 322 million user base across all platforms will no longer require to install separate extensions to handle supported crypto payments on mobile devices.
Opera implements a crypto wallet
The developers implemented last year an anti-mining security feature, and now they’re explaining that Opera with Crypto Wallet for Android’s UI is designed to be much more comfortable than most current crypto wallets out there.
Opera relies on the Android OS’ secure system lock for signing transactions from the Crypto Wallet and this way users will not have to create new PIN codes or passwords to start using the wallet.
“Having a Crypto Wallet in the browser brings the cash experience to the world of online payments,” stated Charles Hamel, Product Lead of Opera Crypto.
“Paying with the Crypto Wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone, and we’ve just made it easier. This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike.”
Fast transition to actual payments
The best version of the app currently supports ETH, ERC20 tokens and ERC-721 collectibles. On the other hand, the developers plan to also add support for more cryptos in the future after they just tested the waters now in order to see the community’s reactions.
Opera’s Crypto Wallet implemented built-in support for the Ethereum web3 API which the Norwegian browser maker hopes will incentivize the creation of DApps.
“We believe the web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow,” added Hamel.
He also stated that by becoming the first important browser that opens up to Web 3.0 they would contribute to making the Internet much more accessible. They plan to accelerate the transition of cryptos to be used for actual payments.
