Vitalik Buterin Pushes For Ethereum 2.0 Launch In 2020

Ethereum was recently in the spotlight after it was revealed that London and Paris-based firm LeadBlock Partners said that Ethereum is emerging as the number one choice amidst blockchain startups in Europe.

ETH has some pretty strong fundamentals, and this is becoming more and more obvious.

Ethereum 2.0 to launch in 2020

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, said that he does not believe that the rollout of Ethereum 2.0’s initial stage that’s called phase 0 should be delayed.

During a Reddit AMA session with the Ethereum 2.0 research team, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said that the practical launch date of Ethereum 2.0’s initial phase may not go live until early next year, the Daily Hodl notes.

“Below are some of the things I want to see before genesis:

a public testnet with 3+ clients running smoothly for 2-3 months

an incentivised “attack net” running for 2-3 months

a bug bounty program similar to bounty.ethereum.org running for 2-3 months

serious differential fuzzing across clients.”

He continued and revealed that “With Thanksgiving on November 26 and the December holidays I’d say the latest practical opportunity for genesis in 2020 is mid-November, 4 months from now. As such, I’m now inclined to say that the earliest practical date for genesis is something like January 3, 2021 (Bitcoin’s 12th anniversary).”

Buterin says the initial stage should be rolled out

Vitalik Buterin doesn’t agree and he said that the initial stage should be rolled out.

“I personally quite disagree with this and I would favor launching phase 0 significantly before that date…” he said.

He continued and explained that “Eth1 took four months from the first multi-client testnet to launch (~end of March 2015 Olympic to end of May 2015 for eth1 launch), and I’d argue the four-month clock started ticking for us at the beginning of July when Altona launched.”
