Twitter Addresses Cause Of Unprecedented Security Hack

As it’s been revealed a couple of days ago, Twitter has been hacked and a lot of high profile accounts were controlled by the bad actor for a while.

They hacked some accounts that had even a few million followers in order to spread a crypto scam.

The compromised accounts included Apple, Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Binance, Coinbase, and more.

Now, it’s been revealed that Twitter is learning more and more about what triggered the massive hack.

The bad actors were able to take over the accounts of former President Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, and more.

The hack also targeted a number of crypto-related accounts, including Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao as we mentioned above.

Twitter addresses the hack

Twitter explained that a coordinated attack targeting the company’s employees eventually gave the hackers access to the accounts.

“We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools,” according to Twitter notes.

They continue and revealed that “We know they used this access to take control of many highly-visible (including verified) accounts and Tweet on their behalf. We’re looking into what other malicious activity they may have conducted or information they may have accessed and will share more here as we have it.”

Twitter also noted that internally there have been taken various steps in order to limit access to internal systems and tolls while the investigation continues.

The accounts that have been compromised were locked, and Twitter said that the owners would get back control only when everything is safe.
